About Me
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 30 years of experience providing therapy to children, families and adults. My journey began as an artist with a desire to incorporate art as a foundation for my career when I discovered art therapy as a healing practice. This inspired my pursuit of a Masters Degree in Art Therapy and incorporation of art therapy into my therapeutic practice. Over my career, I have had the opportunity to work as a therapist and a clinical supervisor in many different settings including community mental health clinics, public schools, and chemical dependency treatment agencies with families and individuals ranging in age from 18 months through adulthood.
Over my career I have specialized in trauma work, which has been informed by the research of Dr. Vincent Felitti and Dr. Robert Anda on the wide ranging impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) on emotional and physical health. The discomfort and pain that motivates individuals and families to seek healing often has its roots in some form of trauma or stress. My interest in learning and developing effective trauma treatment skills led me to the work of Dr. Peter Levine and Somatic Experiencing (SE), a body oriented approach to healing trauma and stress. I earned a certificate in SE after completing the 3 year training and have since deepened my learning by assisting at Beginning and Intermediate SE trainings.
As a therapist, in addition to trauma, I also have extensive experience treating other related issues and behaviors including:
- Mood and anxiety issues
- Adjustment concerns and attachment issues including adoption and foster care
- Dysregulation
- Impulse control issues including ADHD
- Addictions and the impact of addiction on family members
I find the work of guiding families and individuals through the rough patches of life and witnessing the human capacity to grow and change is deeply satisfying.
Trainings and Memberships
I regularly seek training to further my skills and knowledge, focusing on the treatment of trauma, early childhood mental health, and reflective supervision and practice. I maintain professional memberships in the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, the American Art Therapy Association, and the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute.
